My imaginary route for the new National Forest of Wales comprises 18 separate journeys. They started in Wentwood Forest in south Wales (one of the oldest woodlands in all of the country.)
From Wentwood I headed west through the south Wales valleys and over the Black Mountain into Carmarthenshire before heading north through the Cambrian Mountains to the coast at Borth.
Next I walked to Machynlleth and into Snowdonia National Park and Coed y Brenin before turning due east – navigating the vast Clocaenog Forest before following the Dee river valley to Llangollen and ending at Chirk Castle.

Each week I’ll be publishing a post describing the walks as well as a short essay devoted to one of the themes I explore on the walks.
Sign up to the newsletter and you’ll hear about each journey as they are published.
