
She rose out of Llyn y Fan Fach and fell in love with a young farmer with whom she raised three sons who rose to fame as the Physicians of Myddfai. The Lady of the lake was said to be one of “Y Tylwyth Teg” (the Fair Folk). In Welsh folklore the fairies were believed to be the souls of the Druids – existing in a liminal state because, as pagans, they couldn’t be afforded passage to heaven but were too virtuous to be cast into hell. For this reason they existed in a realm known as Y Annwn (the underworld or otherworld).
