Robert Vaughan was one of the most important 17th century antiquarians in Wales and was responsible to housing one of Welsh literature’s most important texts – the medieval Red Book of Hergest.
Vaughan’s collection of Welsh texts – assembled and kept at his family homes of Hengwrt and Peniarth in North Wales – would form the nucleus of the National Library of Wales.
